By Julia Evans A SLASH in community board funding will see grants for local organisations decreased or cut altogether. City council head of community support governance and partnerships Lester Wolfreys confirmed there had been a reduction in funding for the Papanui-Innes Community Board. The city council allocated $402,860 for the 2017/18, which is an $85,000 reduction from the previous year, chairwoman Ali Jones said. The board said this will affect vulnerable members of the community, with many groups anxious about their future. “It’s extremely disappointing . . . we’re doing it tough already,” chief executive of the Belfast Community Network Lynda Goodrick said. Mrs Goodrick said the network could not plan for the future at all because it wasn’t sure if it could fund all its programmes or would have to cut some. “It’s awful. We’re doing the council’s work for them, we’re looking after their people and it’s tough without proper funding,” she said. •Turn to page 6

News Council takes down signs But residents keep fighting for children’s road safety By Julia Evans SIGNS addressing dangerous driving in St Albans have been removed – but frustrated residents say the battle is not over. One sign on the fence of 85 Westminster St, which read “St Albans children matter, slow down” was taken down last week, along with several others in the area around Cranford St. The removal of the signs was ordered by the city council after a four-week investigation found they did not comply with the District Plan, city council head of regulatory compliance Tracey Weston said. St Albans resident and mother Rachel Donaldson made the signs to address dangerous driving around St Albans School after a pupil was clipped by a car. She said the city council or-

dered them all to be taken down unless she paid $1500 per sign for resource consent. The city council began investigating the signs after receiving a complaint. “The premise of the complaint is that the sign was offensive . . . but who could find children’s safety offensive?” Mrs Donaldson said. She said it didn’t seem fair that one person complaining

about a traffic safety sign caused them all to be removed, when the whole community was crying out for the problem to be addressed. “We’re doing our best, but when a single complaint can bring all the signs down, it’s a real shame,” Mrs Donaldson said. But she said the campaign to tackle dangerous driving in St Albans is far from finished.

In a bid to keep the sign on the fence, Christchurch Central Labour candidate and former lawyer, Duncan Webb, attached a photo of himself, which he said made it a political hoarding. Dr Webb said it was “ridiculous” that the city council ordered the sign to be removed. “I do know how to read the rules and it’s clearly an election sign, which is excluded from the city council’s District Plan,” he said. Ms Weston said even after Dr Webb’s addition, the sign was still assessed as “non-compliant” with the District Plan. Although she would not say how. “The parties involved are now addressing their traffic safety concerns with the appropriate part of the city council,” she said. City council staff determined that adjacent to 57 Briggs Rd is the most suitable location for the new stop. Two onstreet parking spaces will be lost. FITNESS TRACK OPENING The Burnside Fitness Trail in Burnside Park will be officially opened on September 30. As part of the opening, Sport Canterbury will provide a demonstration of the four fitness stations at the park and give assistance for those who want to try them out.

Merivale book shop owner marks the end of an era

Merivale Paper Plus has closed this month, so owner Simon Grant has penned a goodbye to the loyal customers who have supported the business over the years

Readers respond to an article about a proposal by Fendalton residents to make Rochdale St ‘residents only’. The attempt to stop drivers using it as a shortcut was declined by the city council Megan Bowie – I think I’ll make a point of driving down there now, every chance I get. The arrogance is strong with this street.

It was with great sadness that we closed our doors for the final time on September 10 after being part of the Merivale Mall family as a Paper Plus for more than 23 years. Unfortunately, the mall has decided not to renew our lease, and has instead signed up Whitcoulls in our place. We are all gutted and really wanted to stay on and keep the store locally-owned, but the mall has decided to go in a different direction. We have loved being part of the community here and I have spent more than half my life working in this store. My mother and father purchased the Merivale

Bookshop in 1994, making the big leap to own their own business and re-brand it into a Paper Plus. From there, they worked hard to build a great store, one that was unique and we were enormously proud of. We have gone through the highs (a cue the length of the mall to meet Richie McCaw during his book launch) and the lows (the sudden loss of my father in 2014), the rise and fall of e-books, and the thousands of earthquakes and the associated repairs and clean-ups. We have enjoyed being part of the community, donating many prizes to school fundraisers and local charities, and the staff

have loved chatting with all our regular customers. We have also supported many local authors, stocking their books and hosting book launches and signings. Thank you to everyone who has shopped with us over the past 23 years. We will continue to look for alternative locations in the area, and will make a big song and dance should we re-open elsewhere. In the meantime, I will relocate to our other Paper Plus store in The Hub Hornby along with a couple of the Merivale staff, where we will continue to offer the same great range and service. Feel free to come in and say ‘hi’ if you are over that way.

Janine Hale – How is it a ‘shortcut’ when it is a legal public road . . . surely it’s just one of many routes to get to a destination? Jennie Moreton – Every nasty comment reflects the bias of the posters who have made judgements about the people living in Rochdale St – probably without meeting any of them. For the record, I don’t live there, I have taken the shortcut down that street in the past and I don’t think any public road should be closed to non-residents. Daniel Thompson – How would they police that? They’d have needed to ask for checkpoints at both ends of the street. Then are the enforcers there on rotating shifts 24/7 or would it be accessed via some kind of swipe card?

Stephanie Hagerty – It’s a street not a private road. You knew that when you bought there. John Bartlett – Head out to east Christchurch and look at the state of the roads there. Shocking and they moan about a bit of traffic. Clarissa Douglas – This street and its residents have a lot of issues . . . If you don’t like it move, I’m sure there’s people out there who would love to live there and not moan. Jennie Moreton – What a lot of nasty comments. If you don’t ask, you don’t get, so why shouldn’t they try? Didn’t work but what’s the harm? Chelcie Tamaira – I just find this hilarious. Sorry. Do they want to be like a Hollywood gated community? It’s so funny.

By Julia Evans TWO SISTERS almost broke down in tears when they met their WWE wrestling idol, Dean Ambrose. Zeinat Alebel, 18 and her sister Sofiya, 14, would describe themselves as wrestling superfans. They proved that after the Burnside High School students lined up from 7am at The Hub Hornby for the chance to meet Raw tag-team champion, Ambrose. “My heart is racing,” she said. Zeinat had Ambrose sign her cellphone, which was now one of her favourite possessions. After the 3pm meet and greet, the teens went to WWE Live at Horncastle Arena – the only live wrestling event in the country. Zeinat said seeing WWE Live was seven years in the making. “Last time we saw them I was 11 and Sofiya was 7.” But she said they’d both been watching it on television for as long as they can remember, if not longer.

Author set to turn pages in Funding cut concern Australia with second book By Julia Evans A BOOK written in Burnside is about to cross the Tasman to be bought and read by Australians. After a run in book stores across New Zealand, Jane Hole’s second work, Talk of Treasure, will be printed by Melbournebased Transit Lounge Publishing next year. “It’s very exciting,” Mrs Hole said. The Wairakei Rd resident, who writes under the pseudonym Jane Carswell, took 10 years to complete her first novel Under the Huang Jiao Tree. “It was finally picked up by the 18th publisher,” Mrs Hole said. But it went on to win the Whitcoulls Travcom Travel Book of the Year in 2010. Now Talk of Treasure is about that writing experience, which happened largely at her Burnside home. “A lot of it takes place from my home, it really is a north-west book,” she said. It’s a memoir set to encourage young writers and give readers a peek at the hard yards which go into getting a book published, Mrs Hole said.

“I point out the reality of writing that no-one told me about.” It was also a chance to say thank you to everyone, she said. “One thing that was very important was when I wrote the first book I was so ill-experienced so many people had to help – my daughter, publishers, anyone.” Mrs Hole said she thinks it will still resonate with an Australian audience, who will be fascinated by the different way of life in New Zealand. “But the local content won’t

put audiences off . . . they’ll see similarities, too,” she said. Being published in Melbourne “the so-called book capital of Australia” was particularly thrilling. “My son lives in Australia, so I have family connections over there too,” she said. She is looking forward to hearing how audiences react. Mrs Hole worked at Pegasus Press, shortly after Janet Frame’s novel Owls Do Cry was published in 1957. Since then she has taught piano and hosted Chinese exchange students in Burnside. While she said she still gives the occasional music lesson, now Mrs Hole’s time is largely filled by working with other writers. “It’s a hub of words on Wairakei Rd,” she said.

Teen’s Hagley Park showpiece By Julia Evans ARTIST RUBY Williams stood on the workshop floor of ENI Engineering in Halswell’s industrial outskirts. It might not seem like a place for creating art but the 15-yearold St Albans resident couldn’t wipe the smile off her face. Ruby saw the sculpture she designed as part of the SCAPE Public Art season for the first time. “It’s perfect. It’s exactly what I had in mind. Absolutely perfect,” she said. The mammoth steel branch, which will be fixed to a tree in Hagley Park, was shaped by ENI engineer Paul Bacon. It’s not something he gets to do very often. Ruby, who attends Villa Maria College, picked out the “pinkypurple” shade it will be painted, saying it represented her personality. Ruby’s mum Breda said her “budding artist” had been waiting eagerly to see the sculpture all day. She was “so, so proud” of her daughter. Ruby won the chance to see her sketches come to life after winning the senior section of the Re:ACTIVATE project. “I don’t know how to explain how it feels. It’s just really, really

It will even feature as a stop on the public walk, which takes people on a tour of all the public art in the city, including pieces from big names like Antony Gormley. Ruby said she would be taking a few more trips through the park than she usually would just to see it. Her design relates to the concept of memory and involves

recreating a tree’s lost limb out of metal. “Replacing that branch with a wire copy resembling the memory of the limb that used to be there. The city is similar in some regards – it fell during the earthquake and was completely changed, parts of it were gone but not forgotten.” But this is only the beginning in Ruby’s art career. The teen said seeing the branch had given her the drive to keep chasing her creative dreams.

By Julia Evans A PROPOSED third southbound lane on the Northern Motorway has got the green light from another committee. The Canterbury regional transport committee has recommended Environment Canterbury approve a variation to the Regional Land Transport Plan to allow a third southbound lane over the Waimakariri Bridge. The lane will only be available to high-occupancy vehicles during the morning commuter rush in a bid to ease congestion coming from Waimakariri through Belfast and into the city. The Papanui-Innes Community Board has opposed the third lane, fearing

traffic build-up in St Albans and the surrounding areas, particularly Cranford St. But in the committee’s report, it said the lane is an “urgent short-term response to morning peak congestion and reliability issues”. The proposal will go to ECan to approve the variation on Thursday. If it is approved, the New Zealand Transport Agency will decide whether to vary the National Land Transport Programme to include this proposal. The lane will cost about $20 million, as long as it is done in conjunction with work on the Northern Corridor. But, if not, it could cost up to $34 million.

SHONA ELLIOTT, née Turton, was a schoolgirl living in Sails St during the war, and later she remembered the tension as the casualty lists were published in the newspaper. The impact of the war became more personal when the local grocer’s assistant and a school friend’s brother were both killed in action. Mrs Elliott recalled that she and her classmates learned to knit and they produced scarves, balaclavas and socks of varying quality for the soldiers of the New Zealand Division. New Zealand citizens had to accept that much of the freedom they had traditionally expected had to be severely modified during the war. Blackout conditions in the hours of darkness were enforced by members of the home guard and other designated officials. Private motor vehicles could be commandeered for army use for the duration of the war. Jack Newton’s Papanui firewood business lost its Bedford truck, a significant part of the

The system relied on the use of coupons and this imposed an extra burden on retailers. Merle Gregor’s father owned a grocery shop on the corner of Blighs and Papanui Rds and she recalls that as a teenager she was responsible for counting the coupons received to reconcile these with the rationed goods sold during the week. Mrs Elliott felt that her mother managed very well and that in some respects the depression years of the early 1930s had

prepared the family to cope with wartime shortages. Few families of Mrs Elliott’s circle of friends owned motor vehicles and therefore the stringent rationing of petrol did not affect them much. By 1942, the possibility of air raids created some anxiety but there is no evidence of a public shelter being constructed in Papanui. There was some public criticism that Papanui Primary School had no effective shelter. The Canterbury Education Board tried to defuse this concern by adopting a policy of ‘dispersal’ and arguing that as the vast majority of pupils lived within seven minutes of the school that they could safely be sent home. This theory was based on the assumption that at least seven minutes warning of impending raids would be provided. By Mark Thomas – specialist fire investigator I WENT to the fire on Clifton Hill, in Sumner, which recently destroyed most of a home. There were a few things there that are worth mentioning. Firstly the occupants were in an unfamiliar house and once smoke began to restrict visibility it was fortunate that one of the group had familiarised himself with the route to the back door and was able to herd most of his family in the right direction. Secondly and knowing human nature, understandably, the group leader tried to put the fire out. It was too advanced at this stage and all he managed was to receive very painful burns. He only evacuated the house when smoke was too thick to breathe. He very nearly didn’t make it. I was asked later by media how the fire grew so large so quickly. There was nothing unusual about the fire growth here. Modern furniture, made of plastics, foams and nylon, provides a huge reserve of fuel

Using the word fuel is very appropriate because all of those materials originate in oil. And burn accordingly. Anywhere you stay, home, motel, cabin or hotel room ensure there is smoke detection. If there’s heavy smoke the cleanest air will be at the lowest point. Get down, get low and get out. Don’t try to fight the fire unless you’re absolutely sure you will succeed. But to complete gold, she said you have to tick off all five sections of the award – service, skills, adventurous journey, physical recreation and a residential project. Lucy volunteered around the boarding house of the school, played netball and tennis, went on a leadership course at Boyle River and did a tramp through the Cass-Lagoon Saddle track. “It was really cool to have met my goal and get the award before I turned 18,” Lucy said. Although she said the effort she put in was exhausting. “It was a really cool experience, I did a lot of things I wouldn’t have otherwise done,” she said.

Skilled Professionals offer a range of foot care treatments For many people, the skills of a podiatrist may be something they think they will never need to access. In fact, these health professionals provide a range of valuable services for that very hard-working part of our body – our feet, which can be subject to a number of health conditions and discomfort issues. As Ian Graham of the Papanui Foot Clinic explains: “Podiatrists treat foot and ankle problems in several different ways. This includes general maintenance such as cutting toe nails and removing corns and hard callouses.” Having a pedicure done in the clean, sterile environment of the podiatry clinic is safer than in a mall-based nail clinic, Ian advises, as the sharing of nail polishes, for example, can lead to cross infections in the nails.

As the weather warms up and we swap our closed-in winter footwear for strappy sandals and open-toed shoes, Ian suggests it is an ideal time to have any hard skin that has developed on the toes and back of the heels removed, giving feet a smooth, attractive appearance. Ingrowing toenails, which can cause pain and discomfort, are easily treated at the Papanui Foot Clinic by Ian and his fellow podiatrist Anna Brown. “We offer several treatments for this, including removing the spike of nail that’s growing into the toe and procedures to correct the problem so it won’t happen again,” Ian says. The ageing process also affects our

feet, as it does other parts of the body, and they can start to deteriorate. Ill-fitting shoes that press on the wrong areas can make this worse. The Papanui Foot Clinic podiatrists can help by explaining to patients how the foot functions and moves, and treating problems such as fallen and collapsing arches. They also offer treatment for diabetics, who have particular problems with their feet such as loss of circulation and loss of feeling. “It’s important for diabetics to keep their feet in good order with regular care,” Ian says. Painful heels, for example, are quite common and these can be treated with orthotic support. “We also advise on the right footwear for children, and help them with stretching programmes to relieve tight muscles,” Ian says. Circles Circles Yelling and singing in the dark, riding in circles in the park. One of the best nights of my life, spent with boys I know and love. Feeling we could take on the world. The wind caresses my grown-out shaggy hair, making my black funeral scarf fly behind. The scarf gets caught on my eyes, leaving me for a few seconds blind. The three of us make a grand trio. We never plan what we get up to on these nights. No girls, no drama, no fights.

In 1929 the doors of Selwyn House School opened and Charlotte Mason, the founder, established the principles, vision and mission of the school. Charlotte, like many other educational pioneers, wished to educate each child as an individual. She believed that all children were capable of achieving success when hard work and sound achievement were encouraged.

Students’ mathematic success By Julia Evans THE NEW rockstars of St Andrew’s College don’t wear leather jackets or ripped jeans. But they know their way around a calculator. The college’s year 10 Cantamath team - Jaymee Chen, Benjamin Frazer, Xavier Dickason and Tobet Glithero - won themselves a “golden ticket” at the 46th Cantamath competition. The team won the ticket after they received a perfect score, 100 points, and answered all the maths questions correctly. Their teacher, Ben Hilliam, said the students worked very hard towards their goal, and to win Cantamath has been a long held aspiration. “At lunchtime the week before Cantamath, all teams from year 7 to 10 competed against each other in to simulate the intense atmosphere at Cantamath to ensure our teams were not over-

The Canterbury Mathematics Association competition was run as a relay in pairs, students had to complete questions then run up to the judges with their answers. The St Andrew’s team answered all questions correctly and beat Christ’s College and Burnside High School, whose teams have dominated the senior competition. The college last won the competition in 2001.

Pre-schoolers’ imagination takes flight PRE-SCHOOLERS’ imaginations took flight while making rockets with older students. Rangi Ruru Preschool children joined a year 10 technology class from the girls’ school to design and build a 3D rocket. Pre-school centre manager Linda Scanlan said the engagement and excitement was palpable among the children while they worked alongside the girls. “The negotiation, discussion, collaboration and laughter really was a joy to observe and a true reflection of our ‘share the joy of childhood’ belief,” Mrs Scanlan said. It all started with the pre-schoolers working on rocket drawings, exploring their thoughts on what a rocket might look like. The next day they went over to the school and began working with the “big girls”, transcribing their ideas down on a larger piece of paper and then into a computer programme in which the older girls could construct replicas of the pictures. “It’s about the natural curiosity being enabled and encouraged,” Mrs Scanlan said. The year 10 girls will now begin the process of transferring this information onto their programming software in order to create a 3D printed rocket model for each of the children involved.

BUGSY THE greyhound visited children at Fairleigh Kindergarten. Richard and Claire, from the SPCA, took Bugsy and some guinea pigs into the kindergarten to teach children about how to take care of animals.

The children were taught a song to remember the five most important rule – food and water, shelter, love, health care and exercise. The children collected pet food and gold coin donations, which they gave to the SPCA.

New reverend moves into rebuilt Merivale church vicarage

Year 6 pupils from Selwyn House School turned an empty lot in the central city into a popup roller-skating rink. The Wonder Wheels event was supported by urban regeneration initiative Gap Filler. Selwyn House pupils tried out roller-skating at the site before members of the public and business mentors were invited to join

in. The school has been working with Gap Filler as part of its education programme. Selwyn House business development and marketing manager Jennifer Shepherd said the girls involved in the project are only 10 and 11-years-old. “It is amazing to see a group of young girls take an interest in adding life back into a city which was badly damaged when they were only two and three years of age,” she said

Gap Filler learning facilitator Sally Airey said this kind of learning experience gave pupils the chance to make a real contribution to the city and helped make it a more vibrant place to live. “We hope that this event encourages others to use this and other vacant sites in creative and fun ways.” ASSIST: Some pupils had not had the chance to roller-skate before.

By Julia Evans THE FIRST step in a historic Merivale church rebuild is complete. The vicarage of the All Souls’ Anglican Parish of Merivale St Albans, a combination of the former St Mary’s Anglican Church in Merivale and St Matthew’s Anglican Church from St Albans, has been opened and blessed. Interim priest-in-charge, Reverend Megan Herles-Mooar, has moved into the new vicarage with her family. Construction began on the new church in April at the site of the former St Mary’s Anglican Church on the corner of Papanui Rd and Church Lane. The church building is set to open in mid-2018. The Warren and Mahoney designed building will include a specially-commissioned circular chapel which, unlike St Mary’s previous gothic structure, will flood the new church with natural light. It will include a memorial window from St Matthew’s and stained glass windows saved from St Mary’s. For the last six years, the two congregations have worshipped together at St Margaret’s College auditorium.

Tigers teen has shot at NZ 18s SCHOOL By Andrew King PAPANUI TIGERS SCHOOL player second rower Seth Tauamiti has been named in the New Zealand Resident 18s rugby league side. The team will compete in a trial against Taurahere – which is made up of New Zealand-born players currently plying their SCHOOLS trade in Australia – on Saturday in Auckland. A New Zealand 18s team will be selected from the match to take on the Australian Schoolboys later this month. Tauamiti’s schoolmate at St Thomas’, Jordan Riki, has been selected

in the side, as has Shirley Boys’ High and Celebration Lions player Daniel Sakisi. St Thomas’ league coach Andrew Auimatagi said both players have a heap of potential and it was great to see it being SCHOOLS recognised. “They thoroughly deserve it and have done really well. It is great to see two young guys able to start to make a career out of it [league],” he said. Tauamiti plays in the second row in league, and No 8 in rugby while Riki is a utility back in SPORTS both codes. Both play league for St Thomas’ and also featured heavily in the school’s first XV.

Papanui Boxing Club’s Sam Watt (right), 25, won the A.B.A Trophy after winning the 91-plus kilogram elite super heavy title, and Ryan Entese, 26, won The Arty Beban Memorial Trophy after winning the under-52kg elite title at the tournament in Rotorua from Monday to Friday last week. Watt added to his other three New Zealand titles, but said he can definitely improve and is looking forward to more ring time. “It is always great to travel with Canterbury and we set the standard for other teams by setting a high standard,” he said. Redwood Boxing Club’s Rendz Remaneses, 25, won the under-56kg elite title, and Kaelan Boyce, 18, won the under-56kg youth title. Riverside Boxing Club’s Sophie Mullally, 16, lost the semi-final of the un-

der-57kg junior category and said, regardless of the result, it was fun. Canterbury Boxing Association team manager Holly Sullivan said it was one of the “greenest” teams they have taken to the national championships in quite a while, but in spite of that the team was awarded the Malcolm Treston Shield for the most wins at the competition. “They have all had a really good run in spite of how fresh they are. Some have come up against really good fighters, so it is

pretty awesome they have done as well as they have,” she said. Papanui Boxing Club coaching stalwart Phil Shatford was also honoured at the tournament with a life membership of the New Zealand Boxing Coaches Association for his 20 years of service to the sport. TOMATO AND MOZZARELLA WITH CRUMBED EGGPLANT Ingredients 1 Eggplant, sliced into 1cm rounds 2 Eggs, lightly whisked and seasoned 1 cup Breadcrumbs ¼ cup Chopped fresh herbs, e.g. parsley or chives 1 bottle Oil, enough for cooking eggplant 2 cups Tomatoes, sliced or chopped 2 whole Mozzarella cheese 1 cup Basil leaves 1 drizzle Lemon-infused olive oil, to serve Directions Firstly crumb the eggplant. Dip into seasoned egg, then roll into the breadcrumbs and parsley combined in another bowl. Set aside in the fridge until ready to cook. Into a frying pan pour a little oil. Fry the eggplant on a medium heat to ensure they cook right through, turning once to brown both sides. Onto a platter, place the eggplant, tomatoes, torn mozzarella,

Stand the orange on one end and cut off all the rind and pith. Lay the orange on its side and cut into thin slices. Place the slices in a shallow bowl. Learning first aid is not only a part of ensuring a safe work place, but also an integral part of our engagement with the wider community. We all learn the necessary skills to ensure that in times of emergency we are able to assist our work colleagues, but are we able to take these skills home, into the community or on to the sports field? not all work places are the same and the injury risk for each place can be wide and variable. The office attended by administrators does not carry the same risk as those people working with heavy machinery, or perhaps at some distance from a regular ambulance service. it is therefore essential that you pick the right first aid course to suit all of your activities – both professional and social. take, for example, an office worker who does not have a high risk work environment and whose concern might be to ensure that they can deal with minor cuts and superficial injuries, or the ability to perform effective CPr. These skills can be achieved on a course of eight hours duration and would generally fit into low to medium risk area. But take this same person on to a sports field either as a spectator or player when a higher level injury occurs. The eight hour course covering unit standards 6402 and 6401 (or 26551 and 26552) does not cover head neck and spinal injuries, eye injuries,

hypothermia and poisonings. The majority of injuries occur outside of the work place, in fact one in three injuries occurs in the home, making it the most common place for injuries to happen. new Zealand children are twice as likely to die through injury as children who live in australia. They mostly die as a result of motor vehicles accidents or falls in the home. fatalities from leisure and sport are not far behind those in the workplace. The wider 12 hour course teaches the additional unit standard 6400 and provides a wide knowledge base for medium to high risk environments. This course covers many of the skills required to deal with the most common injuries, such as falls (which can result in head, neck and spinal injuries) and dealing with complex scenes such as motor vehicle accidents. if you are not sure on the course best suited to your needs, ask your accredited first aid training provider. They can explain the course content and give you options that will best suit your needs. Look beyond the workplace and consider your family and your location. Check that you have a good quality first aid kit that is up-to-date with replenished items, and that everyone knows where it is located.

New branding, new products for family-run health food co

The family-owned and locally operated New Zealand Health Food Company (NZHF) has seen steady growth since its launch in 1988. Magical moments in music LOCAL entertainers Tony Gregory-Hunt and Brian Skinner are amongst the stellar lineup of performers taking part in a special fund raising show at the Hornby WMC next Saturday 30th September. Presented by the Rotary Club of Avonhead, ‘Another Great Variety Tribute Show’ supports Polio Plus. Rotary, along with its partners, has reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent worldwide since the international organisation’s ﬁrst project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. A stunning programme is taking shape for next Saturday’s charity show featuring Kevin Kearns (John Rowles); Tony Gregory-Hunt (Roy Orbison); Brian Skinner (Elvis); Barry Cro (Neil Diamond); George Tanner (Barry Gibb); Chrissi Williams (Patsy Cline) and Ray Harris (e Shadows).
